There are a lot of nontraditional ways to cook your Thanksgiving turkey. For example, you can microwave it, or grill it. Deep-frying is popular now, but a bit hazardous. We decided to come up with a different and safer approach. How many of you thought that your electric or gas clothes dryer was only good for drying clothes? Well, you can cook with it too!
Here's how:
First, choose a 10 to 15 pound bird. Stuff with your favorite stuffing. Then wrap it tightly in high quality fabric softener sheets. We use Arm & Hammer dryer sheets because of the nice, slightly nutty, flavor they add.
Next, place the turkey in the dryer.
Be sure to set the dryer to the high (cotton) setting.
Turn the dryer on and let it cook for 8 to 10 hours. There may be some banging noises as the turkey rolls around inside, but this just tells you that it's getting cooked evenly on all sides - something you wouldn't get with a conventional oven!
Finally, remove the bird, peel off the dryer sheets, garnish, and serve! While you would expect a turkey cooked in a dryer to come out, well..., dry, the fabric softener keeps it moist and tender.
Note: Be sure to clean your dryer thoroughly before and after use.
